DMC winch testing procedure

DMC winch testing procedure

5 min

All our winches are built and tested in our own production facility. Extensive testing is important to guarantee the performance of our winches. But what does such a test involve?

When we have completed the building process of a winch, we place it on our test bench, which has a capacity of 300 tonnes. Then a factory acceptance test (FAT) is performed on 100% load. Testing on 100% load means to determine the maximum operating capacity of a winch and is more important than you think, here’s why:

1. Brakes and clutches are run-in and calibrated

2. Less uncertainties during commissioning and/or trials

3. Faster commissioning process (=cost saving)

The FAT test is carried out under the supervision of a classification society (Lloyds Register, Bureau Veritas, etc.). A final paint job is done after the testing procedure is completed, and after that, the winch is ready for transport and installation on board.
