What if we told you there’s a tool that shows you the exact condition of your bearings at any time?
Knowing exactly when the bearing bush needs replacement will mitigate risk of unexpected downtime. Renewal can be performed during scheduled docking, hereby optimising service planning, minimising maintenance costs and assuring operational safety.
BOSS™ Bearing Clearance Measurement (BCM) measures and displays the physical wear of the rudder carrier and neck bearings down to a single millimetre. This precision gives vessel managers plenty of warning of the risk of the bearing seizing up at some point in the future. The measurements are done by electrical wires (sensors) that measure the real-time distance between de rudder trunk and rudder stock with a 90° offset. The wires are routed inside the rudder trunk and shielded by protection pipes.
Applying this feature reduces the risk of bearing damages to an absolute minimum. BCM is one of the essential applications to avoid open up inspections. Suitable for all ship types with a rudder system.
