Rudder repair of a chemical tanker

Recently we received an urgent request for a rudder repair of a chemical tanker (115 x 17m). The vessel was unsteerable because of issues with its rudder (from another maker). The job needed to be performed within a short timeframe since the ship had to continue its journey sooner rather than later.

After discovering the nature of the problem, our colleagues went straight to work; the rudder stock and gudgeon had to be replaced. The rudder was fully refitted and ready to be installed back into the ship within a couple of weeks. The repair was carried out at Damen Shiprepair Curaçao.

A swing-test was performed to make sure the rudder functioned perfectly, which was exactly the case. The vessel has been sailing its course ever since.
