Cooling nozzle
Innovation is very important for Damen Marine Components. The research & engineering department is constantly working on product innovation and checking on wider applications of existing products. In cooperation with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, a nozzle has been developed which can be applied in closed cooling water systems. Background is, that out of the smaller getting engines more and more power is being squeezed. “This means you simply need more cooling capacity,” according to DMC-director Steef Staal.
Cooling water flows from the main engines through the construction of the nozzle. This application of nozzle cooling has the advantage that, by rotation of the propeller, the flow rate of the (sea)water along the nozzle is always high, particularly when the main engines run full powered. This guarantees high efficiency cooling! The first ship with nozzle cooling has been delivered to the customer. The performance of this nozzle has extensively been tested in the Netherlands and in the warm Middle East. Other nozzles will be tested this year.
