 In order to optimise manoeuvrability when TM  steering manually or automatically, BOSS is able to calculate the rudder forces by  measuring the bending of the rudder stock.

BOSS™ SFM (STERN FORCE MEASUREMENT)

BOSS™ SFM measures the rudder force acting on a sailing ship. The measured values are displayed on a touch panel on the bridge and can be transferred to the ship's navigation system.

In general, all rudder movements create resistance, which increases fuel consumption. The BOSS™ SFM gives you insight in your steering behaviour and the resistance created by the rudder.

With this real-time data one can improve the course of the ship by reducing rudder movements. This results in significant fuel savings and improved manoeuvrability.
