At Damen Marine Components (DMC), we aim to improve vessel performance. Next to an extensive product portfolio with integrated systems, we are there to support you with our 24/7 worldwide service network. This includes our own team of skilled service engineers and numerous service hubs and representatives spread around the globe. One of DMC’s representatives is Ships Machinery International (SMI), located in Florida, US, who recently supported in a challenging service job in Canada.

One of the ferries of a Canadian customer was undergoing some service to extend the already long life in its demanding role. The ferry is equipped with two Van der Velden BARKE® high-lift flap rudders (14,7m2 each). For one of the rudders, an overhaul of the linkage system and a seal replacement was performed with a successful outcome, which was due to the close cooperation and technical expertise of our service representative SMI. Additionally, the aft ship was fully painted, and a swing test of the rudder was performed to confirm that everything worked perfectly. The ferry is currently sailing its course again. On to many more of these successful collaborations.
